From the creators of Amsterdam's ever-cool Societeit De Kring, a literary arts club, is their nightlife annex called ClubUp open for weekends and special events. Essentially a small lounge and dance bar attached to the main daytime club accessed through a separate adjacent street entrance, visitors and members arrive late weekends for a series of DJ-spun dance parties with occasional spoken-word performance jam auf Dutch.
ClubUp is contained within a space of brick walls, side bar and central dance floor surrounded in pop-up word art and disco balls glimmering from the rafters of the room. Depending on the night's theme, projections of silent movies and cult classics roll on the walls with tunes that range from indie pop to 70s Eurovision. The crowd varies between renegade students and occasional celeb, all of a younger sort typical of Netherlands's student-minded artistic base.
